Challenges and strategies for reducing enteric methane emissions in sustainable animal production

نویسندگان

چکیده

Methane emissions in ruminants are influenced by various factors, including feed type and rumen microbial population. Mitigation strategies involve nutritional interventions, soil plant management, synergistic use of different forages. Effective management practices pasture-based systems, such as monitoring forage mass adjusting stocking rates, optimize intake quality, resulting reduced improved sustainability. Dry matter intake, diet profile, quality significantly impact methane production, interactions between microorganisms ruminal ecology also influence emissions. While more efficient animals with lower may not necessarily emit less methane, understanding the differences methanogenic profiles inefficient is crucial requires further investigation. Animal genotype another factor influencing Comprehensive research considering diet, farming systems needed to develop effective achieve significant emission reductions

Reducing Methane Emissions from Cattle Production in Central Queensland

Beef cattle contribute about 7% of national greenhouse gas emissions through the release of methane into the atmosphere. Cattle in northern Australia produce more methane per unit of beef produced because of tropical (C4) grasses and slower average growth rates. In this paper the level of emissions from different herds and some strategies to reduce emissions are modelled. The results indicate t...

Reducing GHG emissions through genetic improvement for feed efficiency: effects on economically important traits and enteric methane production

Genetic selection for residual feed intake (RFI) is an indirect approach for reducing enteric methane (CH4) emissions in beef and dairy cattle. RFI is moderately heritable (0.26 to 0.43), moderately repeatable across diets (0.33 to 0.67) and independent of body size and production, and when adjusted for off-test ultrasound backfat thickness (RFI fat) is also independent of body fatness in growi...

Comparison of Enteric Methane Emissions in China for Different IPCC Estimation Methods and Production Schemes

Accurate estimation of methane (CH4) emission (ME) from enteric fermentation in China is essential to establishing and maintaining a reliable global ME inventory and developing strategies to mitigate such emissions. Based on modern animal production statistics, i.e., feed quality and quantity data for different feeding systems, enteric methane emissions (EME) in China during the period of 1990 ...

Prediction of enteric methane emissions from cattle.

Agriculture has a key role in food production worldwide and it is a major component of the gross domestic product of several countries. Livestock production is essential for the generation of high quality protein foods and the delivery of foods in regions where animal products are the main food source. Environmental impacts of livestock production have been examined for decades, but recently em...
